As Turtle Dove moves into its second decade, we are excited to offer a new strand of programming that will focus on in-depth cultural exploration of non-Christian sacred vocal music. These trips will be for smaller groups (12-15) than our standard retreats, and will work with native singers and teachers. Drawing on years of experience working with musicians from different cultures, Brendan will serve as a facilitator on these trips. We are currently exploring possibilities with Gnawa musicians in Morocco and First Nations singers in Ontario. Stayed tuned for more.
In Persian legend, the Huma is a mythical bird that never alights on the ground, flying high above the earth and never coming to rest. To us, this represents, along with its resonance with words like humility and human, the endless curiosity that we want to bring to exploring unfamiliar traditions.
